Native to South America in the Andean Mountain Range, they are mostly found in Peru, Chile and Bolivia. Often raised as substitutes to sheep, their fibre grows long and look like dreadlocks.
As compared to sheep’s wool, it is not greasy and does not have lanolin. The yarn produced by these camels are largely in demand by knitting lovers.
